BOINC Tasks - Android App - not connected! How to connect

This was frustrating me that there is very few BOINC mobile apps and the one I did find, didn't appear to work well.

First things first, its mostly for a view so that you can see what your computers are doing. You can manage things just like you would on BOINC manager but in a more restricted fashion.

Enough about the app, lets dig in.

Have you installed the BOINC Tasks app? good. Lets get started.

Its not connecting:

There's a bunch of buttons along the top right. It works like this. The buttons on the right are views. The cog is projects, the next on is tasks, the one after that is notices and the last one (before the 3 dots) is computers.

Click on computers and you will probably see just Localhost sitting there and its probably Not Connected unless you happen to be running BOINC on your Android.

Next we need to add the computer. ASSUMING you are on the same network (work out the network settings yourself if not, router forwards etc.) you will need the password and you will need to set the android devices IP as a remote device

I wont list all the details of this process but suffice to say the password is stored in plain text

Now you have that, on your computer you wish to see, open the BOINC manager and shutdown connected client from the file menu.

Close and reopen the BOINC manager

Now go back to the app. We should still be on the computers tab. The very left hand icon is another cog, click on that and choose add computer, type in the IP address of the networked computer and the password which you found from point 3 of the grasping tech website and port 31416

It should connect!

If not, click on the computers icon to refresh the screen. Once connected, go to the tasks icon and you should be able to see your tasks. Tasks are grouped together so the list might be a bit shorter than the BOINC manager.

Happy computing!
