Data security is always a top priority, especially if you're storing sensitive information on your computer or external hard drives. Windows 10's built-in BitLocker feature is a powerful tool for encrypting your data and ensuring that only authorized users can access it. However, when you first set up BitLocker on a machine, you may run into a situation where you need to save your recovery key but can't or don't want to print it out. Perhaps you don't have access to a network location or USB key, or maybe you just prefer to keep a digital copy of the key for easy reference. Whatever your situation may be, the good news is that there are a few simple workarounds that will allow you to save your BitLocker key without having to resort to printing it out. In this article, I'll show you how to get your BitLocker key saved in a secure and convenient way that works for you.
Local shares to the rescue!
So someone at Microsoft who deliberately coded this terrible system to stop you saving your codes to your own machine forgot to add localhost (or 127.0.0.1) to the blacklist.
Step 1
Create a folder
Step 2
Share the folder (I chose everyone to ignore any issues with permissions)
Step 3
Access the newly shared folder from the "save your key" part of the bit locker process.
Now you have your key you can do what you want with it.
