After shutdown, users are still logged in! (Windows 10)

This ones been bugging me for a while so I figured it out (thanks Google) this evening.

Situation

  • When turning the computer on a second user (or more) is still logged in.
  • This occurs even if "Turn on fast start-up" is disabled
  • User does not get logged off when rebooting or shutting down
  • Logged in users appear as disconnected in the task manager

Cause

The cause is rather a simple one and most people would miss it entirely. One of the account options is as follows:

"Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart" is switched on.

Remedy

Switch it off!

  1. Open Settings

  2. Choose accounts

  3. Choose Sign-in options

  4. Scroll to the bottom

  5. Switch to off

Why?

One of the main reasons to switch this off is to save a little RAM. If your tight on memory, say running 4GB (upgrade if possible), you may want every ounce you can get!
