Default ordering for Printer GPO's

I have searched the internet and this is not well documented. A few references but nothing concrete.

So, you have a bunch of printers, some default, some not. You want to know which one is going to be default.

Assuming you have everything setup correctly and have printers being deployed to workstations correctly (this is all assumption here), you may want to know what order the default will be assigned especially if there are multiple printers with defaults associated with the user.

Ok here is a hypothetical list:


  1. Printer A
  2. Printer B - *
  3. Printer C - *
  4. Printer D


There are 2 defaults set but you want to make sure the right one goes to the right person.

You know that Printer C should be the default and in the order above IT WILL.

So, basically, the default printer will be the LAST printer set as default that the user gets.

If a user gets 10 printers and 3 are defaults, only the last printer in this list of 3 will get the defaults. This is the highest number in the order column. The lower the number, the lower the priority.
